Generative Engine Optimization
Depth beats a scattering of one-off pages
A single good page on a topic is fine. A body of connected, thorough pages that cover a subject properly is something else entirely, and models respond to the difference. When a source demonstrates real depth across a theme, engines treat it as an authority on that theme and reach for it more readily when the subject comes up.
This is the logic of topical authority, and it predates AI, but answer engines sharpen it. A model composing a reply is implicitly asking who really knows this area. A site with one thin article looks like a dabbler. A site that covers the questions around a subject carefully, with pages that connect and reinforce each other, looks like a specialist worth quoting.
The practical shape of this is a cluster rather than a scatter. Pick the subjects where you genuinely have expertise and the right to speak, then cover them properly: the core explanation, the common questions, the edge cases, the comparisons, the practical detail. Each page should earn its place, and together they should leave little about the subject unaddressed.
The temptation is to chase many topics shallowly, because it feels like more coverage. It is usually weaker. A model would rather trust the source that clearly owns a subject than the one that touched it once. Decide what you want to be known for, then earn that standing with depth.
