Generative Engine Optimization

You cannot improve what you never check

Most brands have no idea what the major assistants say about them, because they have never systematically asked. They might try a question once, see a flattering answer, and assume all is well. Then a competitor quietly owns the recommendation questions for six months before anyone notices. Monitoring is how you stop flying blind.

Done properly, it is a routine rather than a one-off. You keep a standing set of questions that matter to your business, ask them across the main engines on a schedule, and record what comes back: whether you appear, where in the reply, next to whom, and whether the description is accurate. The value is in the repetition, because a single answer is noise and the trend is signal.

The patterns that emerge are specific and actionable. You find the questions where you are invisible, the competitor who keeps edging you out, the stale claim an engine keeps repeating, the moment a model update changed its mind about your category. Each is a lead for the next piece of work, grounded in evidence rather than a hunch.

It is not thrilling, and it does not make a dramatic slide. But every real improvement in AI visibility starts with knowing the current state honestly, and monitoring is the only way to know it. The brands that watch, learn. The ones that assume, drift.
