Showing up in Google's AI Overviews
Google now answers a great many searches with a generated summary that sits above the usual results. It pulls from pages across the web, stitches together a short reply, and often names a few sources. For a lot of queries, that overview is the first and sometimes the only thing a searcher reads.
The encouraging part is how much of classic SEO still applies. The overview draws heavily on pages that already rank and already demonstrate the kind of authority Google has always rewarded. If you have earned trust the hard way, you are a candidate. The newer requirement is to be summarisable: to have passages that state a point cleanly enough to be lifted into a few sentences.
The discouraging part is the loss of the click. Even when you are cited, the searcher may get what they need from the overview and stop. You influence the impression, but you do not always get the visit, which again pushes you to value the mention itself rather than only the traffic behind it.
The work, then, is twofold. Keep doing the things that earn rankings and trust, because the overview feeds on them. And shape your most important pages so the single most useful sentence is easy to find, because that sentence is what Google will borrow when it writes the summary a searcher reads first.
