A few GEO myths worth dropping
Because the field is new, it attracts confident claims that do not survive contact with how the systems actually work. A few are worth naming, because believing them wastes money and attention.
The first myth is the secret trick: some hidden tag, phrase, or file that forces a model to feature you. There is no such lever. The systems are built to resist exactly that, and anyone selling a shortcut into the answer is selling a story. Visibility comes from being findable, trusted, and clear, which is slower and real.
The second is that SEO is dead and GEO replaces it. The two share a foundation, and most of what earns rankings also feeds answers. Treating them as enemies leads people to abandon work that was quietly helping them. They are layers of the same effort, not rivals.
The third is that you can simply write your own entry in the sources models trust, from reference databases to community forums, and bend the machine's view at will. Those sources have rules and defenders, and gaming them tends to get reverted, flagged, or worse. Standing in them is earned through genuine coverage, not authored on demand.
The last is that GEO is a one-time project. The models change, your competitors move, and your own facts drift. Visibility is a position you hold through attention, not a box you tick once. Drop these four myths and the real work gets clearer: unglamorous, compounding, and honest.
